Re: FN-FORUM Tape to CD

From an ordinary hi-fi set up I am running my 'tape in' from my recording
tape deck to my soundcard rather than routing it back into the amp. This
allows me to tweak the level going into the PC using the recording level on
the tape deck - so I can get a decent level using the VU meter on the tape
deck.
Turntable -> Amp -> Tape Deck -> Soundcard
Soundcard is just an old Creative Soundblaster Live!
On the PC I am running Cool Edit 2000 (which also has a decent enough VU
meter in it). There will be a bit of tweaking involved to get the
input/record level right on your soundcard, but the VU meter in Cool Edit
makes this easy.
Record the audio at 44100, 16-bit, save as WAVs then tidy them up, fade,
trim as required - although you can get software for this I tend to take out
and big clicks by hand but leave little clicks in.
Once they are saved as WAVs you can use something like CDRWin or
Easy CD Creator to burn them to disc.
HTH,
Andy
