While it seems reasonable to try algebra for a solution you are actually
saying that "animal = £1" and hence why the solution fails - to add in
some fruit into the equation you are comparing apples to oranges.

x+y+z=100
10x+y+0.125z=100

x+y+z=10x+y+.125z

Y cancels

x+z=10x+0.125z

z=9x+z/8
7z/8=9x

7z/72=x

y+79z/72=79z/72+y ... works

y+79z/72=100
72y+79z=7200

72y=7200-79z

y=200-79/72z

7z/72+200-79/72z+72z/72=100
7z-79z+72z=-7200

z=0 ... arse.

...Then decided to give up and get on with the urgent bugfix I had to do
:)
