Personally, I find DW to be an excellent and invaluable tool for hand
coding. DW has excellent tools to aid the hand coder, for managing all
your css, managing the site in general, and all kinds of other good
stuff. I never ever work in the browser view at all, I work purely in
the code window, with a split screen so I can see the results of my
work. As long as you don't type anything in the browser view, DW won't
generate any HTML on your behalf.
Cheers,
Christian Southgate
