AppleScript is the answer in both cases. The Finder, Quark, Photoshop and
many other Mac applications support A-S.
You've already got the software on your Mac (in the Apple extras folder -
MacOS 9 or in the Applications folder - Oh Es Ten). You've got tons of
applescript code on your mac already which you use as a basis for your own
scripting.
