FN-FORUM: Dedicated Servers - Linux
date posted 1st July 2003 15:10
Sorry to be horribly boring and start an extremely dry conversation
about hosting and dedicated servers (again!), I'm sure this comes up
every couple of months). I'm hosting a server with Host Europe at the
moment (Dedicated Servers to be precise). The server is 3 years old and
is past it's best (64mb, 500mhz, 2.2 kernel, yikes!) and so I'm getting
itchy feet and thinking of changing hosts (argh!).
The existing server is based in the UK but I've narrowed it down to
http://rackshack.net who are in the US. They seem to have the ludicrous
amount of 70GB per month of bandwidth (I'm using just under 10GB at the
moment), all the other bits and bobs with them also seem to fit what I
need. I can save a considerable amount of dosh per year by moving which
is a big incentive. So without further ado a couple of questions.
1) Anyone got any experiences with RackShack, good or bad?
2) Am I likely to run into problems with SEO and becoming unloved by
Google UK with the various sites if I move servers across the atlantic?
3) Can anyone recommend a good, reliable and well priced host for a
Linux server?
4) I've spent far too much time reading http://www.webhostingtalk.com is
there any good UK centric forum on hosting that anyone knows of?
Thankee very much!
George
