Try putting a function to check your remote server in amongst a few
other functions that don't need to be tweaked by anyone.

it offline (i.e. on your local PC).

when you browse to the machine on the network try using the ip address
rather than the machine name. does that make any difference to the speed?
shouldnt be your nw card if internet browsing is fine....

Do you have some anti-virus on there? When I was running ME, I had Norton
Anti-Virus and if I didn't "disable" auto-protect before shutting down, it
