I developed an HTML newsletter for a client about 18 months ago, and the
main problem we had was with Mac users.

Apparently IE on Mac had problems rendering from within e-mail, so it might
be a sound idea to check that what you've got will render on a Mac.

I used a PHP script to put the HTML mail together as a MIME mail, though I
didn't embed the graphics. I put links in to the graphics images, and also
made available a text only version.
