Re: FN-FORUM: Namesco

date posted 7th January 2004 19:22

I use Namesco extensively as they are just down the road from me and usually
I have no problems.

If you remember I sent a request for help with a formmail problem a few days
ago. What had happened is that they suspected a site of spamming and
suspended the email account immediately. No problem there... but they did
not advise the customer of the suspension. When I contacted support two days
later I specifically asked if there were any site or server specific issues
affecting THAT domain.

No problems came the reply... so much sorting out and checking and I was
advised to reset the MSFrontpage extensions. This wiped the entire site. I
called them back fuming and got through to a different technician who
advised me immediately that the email was suspended, and had been for
several days, and wouldn't restore the files from the previous nights backup
as "Front page has to be published" and no amount of arguing helped. In the
end I had made a backup of all html files 'in case' some days earlier when
the first signs of problems occurred, and the client had all the original
image files so we were able to restore the site from there (I don't maintain
the site, just get pleadings when it goes wrong.)

I must say in their defence when I challenged them on Tuesday (the day after
this fiasco) they agreed that their systems did not work, listened to my
comments and agreed to put new procedures in place.

However I think I might be looking around new suppliers.... just in case.

All my opinion only and aimed at no individuals. (can't get sued then)

Gordon
