I am well pleased, my column layout experiment works on i.e. 4+.

Thanks to Tony for pointing me in the direction of
http://www.skyzyx.com/archives/000094.php now I have i.e. 3, 4, 5, 5.5 and 6
on the same comp.

Doesn't work on Netscape 4.7 but that is a small price to pay.
