That's right, it is - and it will...
H3ll, Debian weenies are scared of Gentoo. Definitely NOT for those with
"little Linux experience".

Mandrake is excellent, and IMO SuSE 9 is even better, but they're overkill
for [a] this kind of job and [b] this kind of hardware.
Lycoris is free and has an excellent very XP-like look & feel. It's the
idea place to start an evaluation.
