FN-FORUM: 1&1 uk domain hosting

a friend/client (well, i'll call him a friend until his starts paying
me :)) has registered a domain via 1&1 uk. he wants that to point at a
holding page i've thrown together. he hasn't got(/doesn't appear to)
have any hosting package at 1&1.

i can't make head nor tail of 1&1's support pages, and since i think
they get mentioned here a fair bit, I thought i'd ask here, before
trying 1&1's support...

i'd prefer to host this site myself, so, ideally i want the dns
modified to point to my box. it's not immediately obvious to me how to
do this. is it possible though 1&1, or do i need to transfer the domain
away from them?

in the interests of getting it up quickly (fnarr!), i tried to upgrade
his package to include some hosting, but it told me the account had
already been modified/upgraded this month, and i'd have to wait. what?
they don't want me (well, his) money? fools.

*sigh*
