In the medium term there's a lot to be said for having your own server
on the LAN for precisely these reasons. It needn't cost the earth
either, even if you're MS-centric. Doesn't need to be the world's
best specified box, and the Action Pack or an MSDN subscription gets
you all the toys you're likely to need.
Doesn't help with the immediate problem, I know :(
