No error messages, no default bleeps, it just quits with the power is still
running.

No it also quits from that after about 30s. Also tried from floppy. Check
the hard drives on another carcass and they boot fine. No bad sectors
visible. When it quit from the BIOS screen again after approx 30s I realised
that I didn't have the faintest.

Tried some spare RAM I had from another machine no joy.
The signal to the monitor just disappears.

I have a spare video card that I'm going to try now but they've glued the
old one in, b'stards.
