RE: FN-FORUM: Actinic Business
date posted 5th February 2004 21:11
Hi Gavin,
I have used Actinic in the past, and it does have a reasonable amount of
features for the price.
However the store I built it for had well over 10,000 products and Actinic
was very slow in handling this amount. The catalogue of products had to be
structured very rigorously and as a results some products could be up to ten
clicks in before they were found. This could have more to do with the actual
clients database of product rather than the Actinic.
As for design issues, then it wasn't too difficult to built the shop around
a pre designed look. And though Actinic uses templates to piece a HTML page
together, you can with a bit of tinkering of the code do just about anything
you want in terms of look.
Also you can set up the online payment with most of the popular companies
such as Netbanx, WorldPay. Actinic does have it's own Java encryption
facility for sending credit card details.
Because I don't really get involved in e-commerce sites now, I couldn't
comment on the latest version of Actinic.
Also their customer support was very good. They also use do a training
programme, which you can attend for a days introduction.
HTH
Steve

Subject: FN-FORUM: Actinic Business
Has anyone had any experience of this.
We currently have a client who wants a fairly advanced commerce store but on
a tight budget, so a bespoke (preferred) option is out of the window.
Thanks
Gavin
