FN-FORUM: Download Manager - MySQL??
date posted 1st April 2004 23:49
Hi all,
Could anyone help here as I'd like to implement a download feature on my
site once someone has paid for a digital product.
I have an unused MySQL database that came with my site hosting package and
wondered if I could utilise this. First thing I need to point out I know
nothing about how to start with this. Although I'm fairly confident in
tackling it having been building sites for almost 6 years now (as a designer
I might add and not a developer).
I'm registered with Paypal for my online credit card processing. So I want
some sort of Shopping Basket, I realise PayPal do have this feature, but I'm
not sure how it works in terms of digital downloads (3D models, textures,
props etc). So I would like some way of tracking the orders, then once
payment has been secured at Paypal, the customer is directed to a page for
their downloads. Would this have to be a login with a unique username and
password scenario?
So is there any pretty decent and free packages that I could build this with
(this is a site I'm developing in my own time and it's the same old story,
no budget). My hosting package has all these available
SSI support, PHP support, CGI support, mod_perl support, Apache ASP support
and one MySQL database.
One thing I need to make sure is the security aspect and that no-one, apart
from a legit customer, can access any of the online products located on my
site's server.
So if anyone can point me in the right direction then I'd truly appreciate
any help, thanks
Regards
Steve
