Thanks for the link Andy.
Hmmmm, this connection was fine until now, I last used Enterprise
manager on Friday and things were fine then, so it must have been since
Friday that they decided to block...

MS SQL Server normally operates on port 1433... you could try telnetting to
your server on port 1433 to see if there is a response. To get round it, you
might try changing your SQL servers TCP port to...

Are you using a local system account for the MSSQLSERVER service?
Start Menu > Admin tools > services > MSSQLSERVER
double click
select Log On tab
Might want to check you are using a valid account...

Make use of the System Restore utility on XP and roll back to a previous restore point. Making a new one first of course.

No reinstall of OS should be needed, you should be able to remove the
offending devices drivers, reboot and let it reinstall and find it place
correctly.
I am an NT/2000 expert so an XP user out there...

I assume your existing 404 page is using ASP, so why not just extend
that to handle true 404 errors. So you don't use 404b.htm at all.
