Why's that? I offer hosting to soem of my clients on the grounds that it
helps me and them - I don't charge much more than cost for the hosting,
though.

When I've worked on projects in the past I've often had the designer saying
that a problem is the hosting company's problem, and the host saying that
the designer / developer doesn't know their stuff.

If you get it all from one place you have one place to point your finger at
when it goes belly up.

What I DO insist on is that any clients who use me for hosting have a
separate 123-reg or similar account and that they control the Domain
pointings, etc. That way if we fall out the issue of moving to a new
hosting companmy is purely in their hands.
