It has some quirks (you have to be careful of how it generates
the cached pages, because non-unique URLs can cause some
interesting problems - serving the wrong cached template),
but generally I find it makes life easier.

Basically I very much prefer to separate code from HTML and
smarty seemed to handle this quite well for my needs.
