Smarty is great (if a bit bulky)

I've used it on a few sites with complex dynamic sites where the
entire site design can change based on various criteria, it's
definitely very powerful, easy to extend (for instance I created a
pagination control for the admin parts of one of the sites).

Although some would argue against using it for efficiency reasons,
i've always found to to be very flexible, and it forces you to follow
good coding practice (separating code & design), and if you have to
work with multiple layouts, or a separate HTML person, its an absolute
godsend.
