Thanks Pete and Tony.

The 'bluerobot' one and the 'ryanbrill' links were the ones I was
looking for. The other two from Tony don't have a fixed width navigation
bar. I had the container-sidebar-content bit sorted, just keeping it a
fixed width was causing problems. The negative margin method seems the
ideal way.
