why do they think that in-house is best?
this was my pride and joy, we wanted less than 2,000 pa to host and
maintain it on a dedicated box (shared would likely have been fine, but
they wanted dedicated) so they decided to take it in house and host it
themselves. I even offerred to set up the server for them (for free) but
no, they wanted to do that themselves too.
so they did.
it was on our server three weeks longer than it should have been, and then
it was down for a week.
it's now up and very broken.
( the site works, but none of the ancilliary stuff like games high scores,
search, stats etc...)
and they've left an insecure CMS wide open in an unprotected directory.
oh well.
I'm not giving the url
I'm sure you can guess it.
I wonder how long it will be before some script kiddy finds the CMS, hacks
past it's basic protection and fills the site with porn images?
so, shall I tell them? and what should my fee be to fix up the server?
;o)
