I got reply from 123-reg affirming it's genuineness, but saying that to
change domain details I should login via the 123-reg control panel. (with
along screed talking me through how to amend my domain details lifted from
their FAQ)

(why didn't they say that in the first place?)

123-reg, or more specifically Pipex - Get a clue!

don't make your emails to customers look like Phishing attempts....
