hi john

if ur not too concerned about it being a 'PC' laptop - i'd look at the
Apple refurb store.

the original white iBook - G3 or G4 - is rugged as hell.

my mother threw hers down the stairs sometime ago (it was her or the
laptop she said!) and the thing still works today!

also, i'd say Mac OS is a darn sight user friendlier and easy to set up
limits on than Windows - but that's just just my 2p worth :-)
