Apple has always favoured interface and compatibility (within its own
world, that is to say) over speed. Back in the mid/late 80's, someone
hacked the Finder down and added a CLI (command line interface). It
was passed around in the BBS community. It screamed with performance -
completely thrashed the PC/MS-DOS systems of that era - but it was no
longer a Mac!

There must be the equivalent of several landfills filled with the
memory turfed out of Apple products over the past 21 years. Too may
times have I seen orphaned RAM not find its 2nd life in another
machine.
