I run Fedora Core 3 w/Gnome on my laptop (Toshiba with 512Mb RAM, 18Gb
HD) and it runs very nicely indeed. Although I have a desktop running
XP, I tend to use the laptop for most work these days.
These are the main apps that I'm running on it:
- Openoffice for the wp/spreadsheets
- Firefox for web browsing
- Thunderbird as an IMAP email client
- Sunbird as a calendar
- Gimp for 2D graphics
- Blender for 3D graphics
- Skype for auto conferencing
- XMMS for playing audio files
- MPlayer for playing movies
- Eclipse as an IDE (mainly for Java)
- Emacs or Editpad pro as a programmers text editor
- vncviewer/rdesktop for remote access
- pptpconfig to access PPTP vpns
- java, mysql, apache etc...
Seems very stable, reasonably quick to install and seems to work well
with wireless PCMCIA cards.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Richard.
