FN-FORUM: Win XP Home Trashed?
date posted 17th January 2005 23:00
Could someone steer me in the right direction. I have just used AVG to
remove 20+ viruses and Adaware to remove 100's of spyware thingies from =
a an
XP Home machine. It boots quicker but when I log on to any account it =
just
logs off again without giving me a chance to do anything.=20
I guess some malware program it was expecting to run is no longer there =
and
so the logon process is failing because some key in the registry is =
calling
for an .exe or .dll that's gone. I've tried to hack the registry via the =
lan
but no success. Restore last known good does not work either. Is there =
some
way I can stop the logon process in its tracks so I can fix it?
So what are my options - a repair install or rip the disk out, save the =
data
and format/reinstall with Linux. At times like this is really hate =
windoze
with avengance.
Ok rant over - any ideas?
Thanks
Ken
