If you back up to CD (not sure about DVD) make sure you use high speed
on Norton ghost.=20

I understand that I can put the image onto cd/dvd and restore from this,
a bit like the old 'Norton Ghost'.
I agree, the image will be pretty big. The plan is to continue doing
smaller, important file backups regularly and a drive image once a month
or so.
Apparently you can also use the image to restore on to a new hard drive
if the original one gets trashed.
