RE: FN-FORUM: Stack Overflow

date posted 20th January 2005 20:27

Hi Ged;

Has occurred twice; once when I was online, it shut down IE, the second
time when I was using a trial version, of a small CSS editor. The latter
won't work anymore. So I'm going to buy the full version.

Kind Regards

D.G

Is this different terminology for a different event?

To me (from a coding point of view) a stack overflow is when a program's
address/data stack has run out of space.

This can occur for a number of reasons, a common one is an infinite
recursive loop when referenced data has become corrupt.

Does the error occur when you run a particular program? Is any info
given
relating to the process that caused it? Could be a corrupt dll/exe, have
you
installed anything new lately?

Simply put, stack overflow occurs when an instruction set (code) is sent
to
the CPU and the CPU can't process the code fast enough - this could be
due
to a hardware failure in your physical RAM or a BUS malfunction or (most
probably) caused by malicious software such as a virus.

Hi All;

Can anyone advise what "Stack Overflow" error message is? Running XP-Pro
PC,
first time I received this message was online; then received again today
and
program crashed. Now my system is running very slow. I tried rebooting,
run
system info seems to recognize my RAM chips; no, conflicts showing. HD

not on more than usual.

Any ideas

Kind Regards
