My mother used to work for the Gas Board. When she was there, there was =
an
inspection by some sort of auditors, and they discovered four blokes in a
back room, playing cards. They all had sandwich boxes and flasks, and =

rapidly approaching retirement age.

They were the department whose job it was to maintain the gas =
streetlights-
apparently, everyone had forgotten about them when their manager died =
just
after the last gaslights were de-commissioned. They'd never been issued
any further instructions, so they just carried on turning up for work for
another thirty-odd years. They gave them early retirement, in the end-
whatever the ethical issue, legally they'd not put a foot wrong. And =
they
were *damn* good poker players.
