Many years ago I had a flat in Sheffield. The landlord was ex-SBS and served
in the Falklands and the first Gulf War. In the end though he couldn't
stomach the politics and the government he was putting his life on the line
for and decided to tell the truth. He 'knew' the likely cause of Gulf War
Syndrome (this was the time when its existence was still denied), he knew
how ex-special forces soldiers were being forced to carry out 'special'
operations for governmental departments (asassinations etc.) , he knew the
truth about certain arms shipments to middle eastern countries etc.etc..

So he started to campaign about it. He lead several demonstrations outside
whitehall and number 10. Eventually Channel 4 wanted to use him for a
documentary as they realised they had some one who had been very high up and
still had important contacts and could factualise a lot of current
speculation.

However, the channel 4 reporters were silenced. Very film like, when he
tried to contact them after several weeks of silence he was told they'd
never worked there.

He currently makes his living dealing in historical military vehicles and
renting them out for films, shows etc. The army had agreed to sell him an
old Chieften tank which he had all the paper work for. He went along, got
security clearence, did it all by the book and had the tank taken out on a
huge transporter.

Several weeks later he gets arrested for stealing a tank. There was all
sorts of forged documention, CCTV footage had been edited, 'witnesses' found
.. etc.. So it went to court. However he had been sufficiently high up in
the SBS and had enough reliable contacts still that he found the original
CCTV footage and found the person who was ordered to missplace the paper
work. There was also the point of how do you steal a 40ton tank from a high
security base in broaddaylight and drive it al the way to Sheffield without
being seen. He won but was not awarded damages and nobody was held to
account.

As a military dealer he has licences for all European firearms/ammunition
and most foreign munitions. A licence was never needed for smoke discharges
on tanks as they were considered weapons. Howver a few years ago a device
came onto the market for launching grenades from particular discharages and
licences were required.

Shortly after it came on the market his house was raided by armed police. He
was taken to one police station his pregnant wife another and kept there for
as long as the police were allowed. Meanwhile the police casually planted
these new grenades in his house, videoing themselves in the process.

Naturally when this came to court the police provided edited video footage
and accused him of possessing firearms without a licence. However, he had
agani been in touch with his high level friends and got the unedited footage
which was used to free him. It also got the head of the Sheffield police
firearms division and several officers suspended.

It was about the same time that many of his friends and relatives reported
having strangers turning up on their doorsteps asking if they could be put
in touch with N. N. as he was am arms dealer. Which he wasn't.

He's since found out that it was one particular minister that instigated all
of this. The minister naturally got off scott free and my landlord was
forced to back down from his campaign when threats were made against his
family. He knew to take them seriously. He also knew the people who would
carry out the threat.

Oh and you know all those burning oilwells in Iraq that we blamed the Iraqis
for .. well his squad of SBS were responsible for at least a dozen of them.

Obviously this is just what he told us so who knows if its true. Except he
had no reason to tell us and his wife and a guy who worked with him
corroburated it. And being a devout Born Again Christian I assume telling
such a huge pack of lies would be considered wrong.
