I don't think that's strictly true. IBM manufactured (and also badged)
Cyrix-designed x86 chips and did use them in some of its own badged PCs.
And I think the PowerPC had come out by then:

IBM generally don't bother with low-end processors anyway. By low-end=20
I do mean Pentium 4 and what have you. IBM's POWER architecture
(related to PowerPC but different) is doing quite nicely for them, thanky=
