I think I'm going to offer them a menu of the pay ones (ta for the
suggestions folks) and a home made system that would be something in
between my thing and your thing (probably using my thing to get a ranked
list of close ones out, and then your formula to work out the actual
distances) - and let them pick which they fancy.
