Sounds like your original is too large.
1) Adjust image size to the correct pixel dimensions you need for your final
JPG (presumably for web use?).
2) Save as another file name, at no less than 10 quality setting.
3) Using the new smaller file, save for web and play around with the
previews until you get the look/file size you want. Consider GIFs too - pics
can work well at 128 or 256 colours and save file size.

This bloody Photoshop is driving me mad! I want a JPEG of about 50kb, but if
I go Save As - JPEG and select the lowest quality the filesize is still
huge. Then if I go Save for Web, it says the filesize is too big for this
function!
Can anybody help?
