RE: FN-FORUM: font management
date posted 1st April 2005 19:44
If anyone's interested I'm on the cusp of putting a nice little font-finder
on my website for download. Planning it as a freebie (basically cause i
don't have the time to package it all up).
Don't know about everyone else, but I've got the best part of 8000 fonts
here, which can be a nightmare to sift through, so I wrote a little VB app
for myself so I can plonk some text in, and preview that text with all the
fonts on my machine, and page through, building up a shortlist which can be
saved as a project, which you can then look at later.
You can also group them by style, and just filter out to show fonts with
that style. You can also attach keywords, and do a search (obviously these
two options involve you going through all your fonts and grouping them as
desired)
it should be ready soon, might put some time in over the weekend on it.
At the moment it's just a tool that I use, so just need to make it look
nicer and get rid of some of the bugs.
Anybody interested, gis a shout and I'll mail you when it's available.
ps. It's a windows app - so you'll need windoze, done in VB so can't port
this version to mac or linux.
was thinking about having some kind of central db you can connect to with
the fonts already categorised and keywords attached, but maybe later :-)

Just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to organise fonts into
subcategories/folders generically (by which I mean that all applications can
work with) or something similar?
Any ideas?
Richard.
