The hard dust was I would estimate the same consistency as chalk, i.e.
it easily crumbled when I probed it with a small bladed screwdriver. It
was definitely nor fuse...

Sometimes these cards need the software to be installed before you install
the hardware. I found this with a D-Link wireless card.
