Re: FN-FORUM: [OT] Question for the hardware gurus.

Thanks Nicola. I've just had a friend whos still in game development and he
confirmed that after installing BiA on five of their machines they had two
faliures and lots of intermittent problems with the other three, even after
taking off BiA. And it affects other games. Theres definately something odd.

As for whether its the monitor, it may have been for a while. I've 3
different monitors and its the only one to go funny. Its got a greenish cast
to it now which I managed to get rid of with the monitor setup doodads and
it seems fine atm. I think when the machine went it might have failed to
reset or otherwise screwed up the signal which the monitor hasn't been able
to cope with.

Patrick.

I wonder if it may have been the monitor.

Ah hah!
1) Were both PCs using the same monitor, since one died?
2) If not, were the monitors bought at around the same time, are they
similar?
3) Now you've got a signal back - does the screen jump up and down, or
backwards and forwards in depth? Is part of the screen off coloured
(usually green or red)? Does the screen come in and out of focus?

If so, it could well be the monitor.
The only way to check that is to get an un-BIA'd PC and see what the
screen looks like.

Otherwise - I find it hard to believe that the game is frying vid
cards, usually a card will just throw errors if it can't handle what's
being shoved through it. They tend not to fry from high-end gaming.
Though, as you said, other people have had similar problems. It could
be that it's screwed something software -wise, but then it shouldn't
really have problems on bootup.

Try putting a Windows CD in and booting from that. See what that looks like.

Nicola
