Further to this, AMD have announced last ship/order dates for socket 754.
This is to distributors so expect stock to runout shortly after the
last ship date, as AMD are making it more attractive to buy 939 at the
lower end than 754.

From the horses mouth:

Further to our previous communication, we would like to remind you
that the AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor family will fully transition to
939-pin .

Blurb to encourage the faster adoption:

TAKE ADVANTANGE OF THE SOCKET 939 PROCESSOR FEATURES TODAY:

9.6GB/s delivered by the AMD Athlon 64 processor in Socket 754.

digital home and entertainment solutions and commercial desktop PCs.

AMD Athlon 64 processors in Socket 939 offer a maximum thermal power

Low-power processing at no additional cost.

supported as standard on Socket 939 mainboards, reducing processor
power, heat and system noise even further!

IV) PCI Express(tm) Infrastructure: Huge selection and availability of
Socket 939 PCI-Express mainboards: discrete graphics or integrated
graphics solutions, ATX and uATX.

V) Ready for dual-core processor: Socket 939 offers a single
