I've had a similar experience although I didn't go to hospital as it
died down fairly quickly and although it wasn't easy breathing I didn't
feel in trouble. As far as I can remember it was -1 or -2 degrees,
around November time of year I think and I and a friend walked to a chip
shop. Chip shop was very hot inside, as they usually are, probably 25
degrees or more. Also next door to the chip shop at the time was a
fancy fish restaurant (making lots of very strong fishy smells). Came
out of the chippy and started walking home and my face started puffing
up, eyes became slits, throat contracted, broke out in a rash across
most of my body and had shallow breathing etc. Got home and looked like
my face had been inflated with helium.
Did a little research after that as it was a little disconcerting!
Apparently anaphylactic shock or an allergic reaction can be caused by
seafood (and I suppose the fact that the smell from the restaurant next
door was pretty strong could have been it) but one cause which I'd not
heard of was extreme change in temperature (chippy was tropical -
outside was freezing). Which I think was what did it for me...
Anyway, I know how you felt Damon, sounds like it was the seafood.
Cheers
George
