I had this problem in illustrator, I got round it by exporting a
gradiant in PS as a pdf document saving transparency then importing it
into illustrator. I Guess you could do it this way.

From what I've heard, Ventura still wins for long publications (and is
also awesome!). Sadly Corel don't see how much people need...

Yeah PS is no problem but I can't see that it's possible in InDesign.

Thanks for the advice, I've added an IE specific version of the menublock
class with a height: 510px instead of a bottom: 0px in it. Also moved the
background image from the body to the contentblock...

IE is not so much standards-based as M$-standards-based.
http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp
will tell you which CSS is IE compatible and which isn't.
