Re: FN-FORUM: Password Protected Websites
date posted 5th August 2005 09:03
Hi Charlie,
What are the reasons for wanting a password? For example are the deals=20=
for trade only or something like that? If there is no real reason for=20=
wanting the pricing/products to be hidden other than wanting to grab=20
people's details then I would agree with you that putting a password on=20=
is a waste of time.
Perhaps the client needs encouraging to remember what a critical point=20=
of the site is, namely - to provide information that motivates people=20
to purchase goods/services. Simply grabbing people's details does not=20=
achieve that - they still have to be encouraged to buy. Worse still is=20=
that the approach being suggested will probably discourage use. =20
Assuming there is no compelling reason to use a password, I might try=20
and encourage a different view based on key points of attracting=20
visitors, presenting information clearly, encouraging conversion of the=20=
visitor to a purchaser and generating repeat traffic.
Perhaps sharing the type of goods/services and the reason for wanting=20
to put a barrier in place might help shed some additional light on what=20=
might be the best approach?
All the best
Jeremy Aston
