Yeah, I just don't want to have to go to everyone who links to my site and
ask them to update the link!!
It could take a while to get them to be bothered to do it!

Search engines will read what your links link to, they're indexing the
tag, not where that page takes them. If you point
your link to page.htm but that forwards to google, it records the link
as a link to page.htm not to google.
