RE: FN-FORUM: .NET Web Service without VS

date posted 1st November 2005 17:07

You can get valid HMTL/XHTML out of VS, just not using all the MS
controls ;) If you create the headers etc., as HTML/XHTML and then
create the whole document as XSLT derived HTML/XHTML then all fine and
dandy ;)

VS isn't a very good visual designer, very good IDE.

Subject: RE: FN-FORUM: .NET Web Service without VS

Er, yes, as far as "I" know the only way to interrogate a BTreive
database attached to a web site in Australia and link it into results
obtained from a SQL 2000 database here in the UK and display the whole
thing on a web site is web services. At least I hope so:) Also each
site has to be able to sell each others stuff and keep accounts on each
others systems.

So, Damn, looks like I'm stuck with VS. I feel a rapid / advanced
course coming on. I hope they're not too expensive. I've spent a
fortune on books so far but they don't cover what I need, i.e. real
life! Of course the other "minor" points are all the extra keystrokes
needed to undo VS's "help"
(even with everything switched off in options) and the fact that you
can't produce validatable HTML or XHTML with it. Bit of a nightmare
really:(

Thanks Andy,

There's too much to get wrong trying to do anything with .NET without
using VS2003. Do you *really* need to use webservices with classic ASP ?
You have to manage the whole soap conversation yourself and it's way
easier to do with .NET.

Cheers
Andy

Hi,

I'm just about losing it with VS2003. I'm a newbie to .NET and need to
write some web services for a classic ASP site. I know some people are
writing web services without Visual Studios' "help". Could any of you
that are please tell me what you use and any "recommended" tutorials
that helped you on your way.

Best regards,

Craig
