HI Dom,
I was thinking of trying to use another dns server to try and speed things
up, but have decided it's to much of a grey area to even think about
continuing. So I give up and just accept what BT have given me....

The law is a right mess. We've recently seen someone convicted for
enter "../../../" into the address bar of his browser. Meanwhile a
mailbomber
was acquitted because sending email to a mail server is "authorised" -
even if you are trying to overwhelm the machine and crash it.
But - if it's your router you can do what you like with it. Or do you mean
you are setting up your router so that you are using someone else's
DNS server?
I'd guess that if somebody's set up a DNS server to respond to requests
from all and sundry, then access is implicitly authorised. But it would
probably depend on whether the judge's gout was playing up again.
