The majority of ISPs do seem to be absolutely rubbish. I find it
shocking that people can be so utterly incompetent and stay in business,
especially where shared hosting is concerned. I have had dealings with
1and1 and WebFusion that would make me strongly recommend that no-one
ever do anything with either company. Active24 I have found to be
alright - their SQL Server hosting seemed to be quite up and down but at
least you could access it through Enterprise Manager and the web hosting
had a reasonably good uptime.

Most people seem to be better with dedicated servers, though. I guess
cos they don't have to do anything with them. Most companies are renting
them in one of the big datacentres anyway so what you're getting is
pretty much the same thing whoever you buy it through.
