No, I do understand that. And if it was me who'd lost out on the
money I'd be gutted. But it's not a well paid job and he's already
spent the money - it didn't go into a savings account or anything.
If he had to pay it back now he'd be screwed financially for months,
and as the mistake wasn't his it seems a bit unfair?

I think if he was well off and the money had just gone into an ISA
then he'd be happy to pay it back (well not exactly happy - but he's
only human).
