Just to say I found a verion that worked, but I couldn't get it to work
with images that were loaded after the original file - even by modifying
the data that's being written at run-time. The "original" image would
display but subsequent ones either still displayed incorrectly - or
bizzarly not at all. Or "intermittant"
So rather than waste another day with the vagaries of javascript
debugging and possibly browser bugs I've gone to just rendering the
output onto the background as I know the image in question will always
be in the same place.
It's a shame because it was a nice neat idea and this is a bit of a
kludge.
