I don't believe that this is entirely true. Only if you are going to
post the c/c details to HSBC from your own site do you need SSL. They
also do an easier hosted solution whereby you post basic information and
the rest e.g. payment information is input on a HSBC page using SSL. I
have vague recollections of this after a customer came to me with an
existing Actinic website that they needed to integrate with the HSBC PSP
some time ago.
