RE: FN-FORUM: Adwords

date posted 19th January 2006 21:33

The thing to remember is that using adwords doesn't affect your search
rankings. There is a clear distinction between google ads & google
listings.

When you sign up for adwords, you allocate how much you are willing to
spend. I tested this with a personal site that isn't in a popular =
category.
It cost me about 20p per click, and I set a maximum of =A315 per month =
which
was never reached.

For the more popular categories, you will obviously pay more.

As a general rule, make sure your images have relevant alt text, have =
titles
that are relevant and include some keywords. Also, make full use of the
meta tags.

Make sure you link to other sites, and those sites link to you. If
possible, have the links to you include keywords too.

In my experience, google will find you anyway. There are loads of =
theories
as to the best way of doing things here. The last time I checked, =
google
were doing away with 'fly-by-night' websites. Therefore, the robot may
track your site a couple of times before it is listed.

I put a site up 12 months ago, and it took 6 months to appear in the top =
20.
This was without putting any effort into SEO.

One last thing - google deny explicitly that anyone 'on the inside' has =
any
influence over rankings, or can speed up submissions. I personally =
would
avoid any company that promises they can.

I saw a great site once that showed how a robot viewed a given website. =
I
can't find the link at the moment - maybe someone knows it?

I hope this helps a bit. I am not an SEO expert though.

Subject: FN-FORUM: Adwords

My client has asked me to look into getting his company on the search=20
engines.

My personal opinion is that they are a waste of money, has anyone on =
this=20
forum had experience of doing adwords and getting your ad on bowers does =
it=20
really work. How can you possibly monitor if these companies really do =
what=20
they really say there do.

The only worth while thing I can see in joining is the pay per click for =

google, but that is a chicken and egg as well, how much to pay up front =
too=20
much and your in a loss to little and your miss the boat.

Any advise would be helpful.
