Lorna,
Search engine submission is entirely free, apart from the charges you
will make for your time. A good semantic css site, with well written
content, tweaked to optimise the keyword density, making good use of=20
H1, H2 etc tags is all thats needed to get a good start.
A few reciprocal, or even a one way temporary link to your site from
an established frequently crawled site will get the search engine
spiders visiting in no time. Then build links, one way if possible, at
a steady pace over the next few months and watch your site climb the
rankings slowly but surely.
Despite what many people will have you believe SEO is quite simple.
Build links, reciprocal and one way, add and update content
frequently, keep an eye on keyword density but don't let it detract
from the most important thing, readable, informative and original
content. Unless the subject is a very competitive one, i.e. web
design, concentrating on getting good organic listings is more cost
effective in the long run than PPC.
There are a few more tricks of the trade, but I'm afraid I would have
to kill you if I told you! (LOL)
Regards,
Paul
