Re: FN-FORUM: OT - Buying a TV - Any advice?

That's pretty safe advice. You might also be interested in reading a =20=
short guide on plasma installation I put up on my site - http://=20
www.realitylogic.com/plasmainstallationguide.html. It's not geared =20
to buying advice (I am doing another one for that) but it does cover =20
some other aspects such as how you might wish to install it, cables =20
and connectivity to things like your DVD player.
I would say that it is really really really important that you see =20
the screen in action, preferably connected to a DVD player with HDMI =20
or component. So many places, especially larger electronic chains, =20
use the lowest quality connection types and you never really are able =20=
to see or compare the screen's capabilities properly. Looks etc are =20
also important and you may prefer one screen over another once you =20
have seen it.
My very partial plasma screen preferences btw are Panasonic (42") and =20=
Pioneer (43") but don't let that swing you - it's your money! The =20
only thing I would say is please please please do not get conned by =20
anything with ambilight - it's a trick to make up for the fact the =20
screen contrast is really poor.
All the best and enjoy your new screen whatever you buy!
